Mountain Grove outscored the Houston eighth grade girls’ basketball team 12-3 in the opening quarter and cruised to a 31-21 victory Friday night in its championship game.
Kenzie Scheets scored six of the Lady Tigers’ eight first-half points and finished with a team-best 10. Alexa Ichord had five points, and Demi Pittman and Amber Sillyman scored three each.
In Thursday’s semifinals, Ichord scored a season-high 14 points to lead to a 34-23 victory against the Mountain Grove seventh grade.
Scheets had eight points, four assists and three steals for Houston, which struggled after going ahead 15-4. The Lady Tigers were outscored in the second and third quarters and missed 15 of their 21 free throws.
Pittman scored six points, and Sadie Ashworth grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. Ichord had six rebounds.
