More than 300 attend quilt show

The fourth biannual quilt show hosted Saturday by the Piney River Quilt Guild had 335 registered attendees who viewed almost 200 quilts.

Special displays included: military uniforms and quilts made for wounded soldiers by the guild; a country store replica; quilts made for the Angel’s Home and Shriners; and pillowcases for children undergoing cancer treatments.

Guests at the show in the Houston United Methodist Church came from 23 Missouri towns and cities, and from Iowa, Texas and Arizona, according to show co-chairwomen, Pat Rice and Darlene Gourley.

Antique quilts were grouped in a special display this year. The raffle quilt was won by Janet Wiseman of Houston. Proceeds from the raffle quilt and floor donations will be divided among Texas County Memorial Hospital Foundation Hospice of Care, American Cancer Society and The Animal Shelter of Texas County. Earlene Coday of Cabool and Kim Bailey of Licking won handcrafted purses, while game prizes were won by Fawn Cockrum and Beverly Jones.

The Piney River Quilt Guild meets the third Thursday of each month at 1 p.m. in the fellowship hall of the Houston United Methodist Church and is open to all interested women in the area.
