The River Riders aided 200 area children through a December toy drive.

The River Riders raised more than $1,400 to aid 200 children through a toy drive and fund-raiser held at towns throughout the region in December.

More than 400 toys were handed out to children in Summersville, Eminence, Houston, Birch Tree, Winona, Mountain View, Willow Springs, Raymondville and West Plains.

The majority of the money came from Daryl Bell and his family, who graciously donated money in lieu of flowers and any toys brought to the funeral home in memory of Carol Bell.

On a Sunday in December, The River Riders went shopping for the children. The group said it is “a group of leather wearing, motorcycle riding supporters who got to experience the spirit of Christmas joy for less fortunate children.”

The group thanked the Bell family, Wal-Mart Supercenter of Houston and others behind the scene who made the event a success.
