A second internal medicine physician will join the staff at Texas County Memorial Hospital in April, the hospital announced last week.
Schaun Flaim, D.O., a board-certified internist, signed a three-year contract with TCMH. Flaim will begin working full time April 19 at the TCMH Medical Complex in Houston.
Flaim was introduced to the TCMH opportunity by Dr. Gretchen Price, an internal medicine physician that will join TCMH in September. Flaim and Price worked together in medical school and residency.
Currently, Flaim is employed by Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla, where he has worked since 2008. He has developed a busy hospital and clinic practice while working in Rolla.
“TCMH needs to have internal medicine to effectively meet the medical needs of our patients,” said Wes Murray, TCMH CEO. “We hope that Dr. Price and Dr. Flaim can help us grow the internal medicine and critical care services we offer our patients.”
Flaim and Price will provide some procedures such as bronchoscopy that are not available at the hospital. They will also provide the physician component of some services that are being sent out of the hospital such as reading pulmonary function tests and echocardiograms.
Flaim grew up in Wyoming and has an undergraduate degree in biochemistry from the University of Washington in Seattle. He attended Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine at A.T. Still University in Kirksville and completed the internal medicine residency program at Northeast Regional Medical Center (NRMC) in Kirksville.
During his training, Flaim served as chief resident and chief intern. He also received awards for House Staff Master Teacher, Most Professional House Staff and Intern of the Year at NRMC.
Flaim has specific areas of interest in preventative medicine, critical care and infectious disease. He will see inpatients and outpatients when he begins work at TCMH in a few weeks.
The TCMH Medical Complex in Houston is already making appointments for Flaim at 417-967-5435.
