Locally owned and volunteer-operated community radio KZ88/KZGM will hold a first birthday party and open house from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 18.
The station’s main studio and offices are at 1211 Ozark St. in Cabool. Everyone is invited for grilled hot dogs, birthday cake and tours.
KZ88 broadcasts on 88.1 FM with a power of 12,500 watts. It provides the first public radio service to more than 25,000 people in Southern Missouri. There are around 200,000 people in its total coverage area. KZ88 is now available online for listeners out of the area. The Web site is www.kz88.org. KZ88 is a non-profit, non-commercial station. It is listener-supported radio. The first day of regular broadcasting was April 15, 2009.
KZ88 is an affiliate of the Pacifica network. More than 50 percent of the station’s programming is locally produced and three of its local program are regularly heard on other stations across the country.
