A Cabool man entered a guilty plea Monday in connection with the death of a 4-year-old child near Cabool in November 2008.
Daniel D. Lamborn was set to go to trial this week and was charged with abuse resulting in death. The trial was set in Phelps County.
Lamborn gave authorities multiple accounts of the moments leading to Camille Fayte Denis’ Nov. 22 death, Sgt. Travis Davis of the Texas County Sheriff’s Department said in a probable cause statement. He initially told Davis that a large toy box had fallen on the girl’s chest.
An autopsy revealed a laceration to the child’s heart. When confronted with the information, Davis said Lamborn admitted he had lied about the toy box. Davis said Lamborn gave several accounts, including tossing the girl in the air, stepping on her and falling on her with his forearm, before requesting an attorney.
