Joe LaVern Davis, 86, died Wednesday, July 21, 2010, at St. Francis Hospital in Mountain View.

He was born Oct. 11, 1923, in Park View, Okla., son of Leonard and Sarah Lee Burris Davis. He and Dema Jo Jones were married Nov. 6, 1946.

He graduated from Cushing, Okla., High School in 1942 and traveled to Oregon, where he worked for Kaiser Shipbuilding until he entered the Army Air Corps in 1943. He was stationed in Italy, where he served as an aerial engineer and gunner on a B-17 bomber. He flew about 25 missions over enemy territory. After the war, he was employed by Midland Cooperative Refinery, which was later purchased by Hudson Oil. He was recognized as a 30-year employee.

He attended Midvale Church. He loved young people and singing.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dema; his stepfather, John Selemon; and a brother, Orville Davis.

Survivors include a son, Ron of Summersville; two granddaughters; two great-granddaughters; a sister, Maxine Haire of Miami, Fla.; a brother, Johnny Selemon of Ogden, Kan.; and a host of other family and friends.

Memorial services were Saturday, July 24, at Bradford Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Emmett Bradford and the Rev. James Bradford officiating. Burial was in Pine Lawn Cemetery in Cushing, Okla.
