Texas County sales tax revenue finished down during the latest monthly distribution.

Sales tax revenue down for county, city

Sales tax revenue at Houston and Texas County fell in August, reports the Missouri Department of Revenue.

Texas County’s three half-cent sales taxes each generated about $89,000. That’s down about $7,300 each from a year ago.

For the year, more than $631,000 has been collected from each levy. Collections are up more than $9,200 for each from the same period a year ago.

City of Houston merchants also reported less sales tax revenue to the state. Revenue from a one-cent sales tax totaled $57,764, which is down about $6,598 from the same period a year ago. For the year, $430,860 has been collected. That’s down about $8,259 for the year or about 1.9 percent.

Two quarter-cent sales taxes pegged for sidewalk, street and utility improvements totaled more than $14,000 each. An eighth-cent sales tax for fire truck debt repayment totaled $7,079.
