A wrecker lifts a vehicle out of an Upton stream Sunday following an accident.

Updated at 3:10 p.m. Monday: A Success couple escaped injury Sunday when their mini-van ran off a low-water bridge and landed on its top, the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The 2006 Kia was driven on Upton Road in western Texas County by Clifford E. Perkins, 79, of Success. Mary F. Perkins, 70, also of Success, was a passenger.

The accident set off a frenzy as rescue workers arrived to find the vehicle partially submerged in a stream. Members of the Texas County Rescue Squad and Huggins Fire Department were called to the scene.

The vehicle was lifted out of the water by a large wrecker.


Earlier: A silver mini-van ended up in a stream Sunday morning in the Upton community, authorities said.

One person was rescued after the Missouri State Highway Patrol and Texas County Rescue Squad were called to the scene, which is on Upton Road off Highway FF west of Houston. A report has not yet been released.

A wrecker was called to remove the van from the stream.


Earlier: Rescue personnel are en route to the Upton area, where a vehicle is reported upside down in a stream with one person inside.

The Texas County Rescue Squad, Huggins Fire Department and Missouri State Highway Patrol are traveling to the scene on Upton Road, which is off Highway FF.
