Intercounty employees repair a power pole that was snapped about two feet above its base.

An Illinois man was injured Friday morning when his vehicle went airborne over a fence and snapped a power pole before coming to rest on its top in a field.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said James E. English, 44, of Auburn, Ill., sustained moderate injuries in the 9:58 a.m. accident four miles south of Licking on Highway BB. He was headed eastbound when his 2002 Toyota Tundra crossed over the highway, went over the fence and rested in the field. As it crossed the fence line, the vehicle snapped a power pole about two feet above its base.

English, who was taken to Texas County Memorial Hospital, was wearing a seat belt, according to the patrol.

Responding to the incident were Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers, two Texas County rescue squads, representatives of Licking Rural and City of Houston Fire Departments and workers from Intercounty Electric Cooperative.
