George R. Darter

George Rodney Darter, 57, Cabool, died Monday, Nov. 22, 2010.

He was born Oct. 1, 1953, in the Pea Ridge Community south of Cabool, son of Homer and Edna Jackson Darter.

He grew up on the family farm and attended Cabool Schools. He graduated in 1971.

After graduating, he worked for Cabool Tire & Muffler. In 1979, he began his career as a truck driver and drove through the years for Ed Brewer, CFI, TMC, General Electric, Jim Wake and Dan Cline. He was known by his CB handle, “Missouri Roadhog.”

He became a Christian at a young age. He attended Pea Ridge Church and later joined the First United Methodist Church in Cabool.

He was diagnosed with kidney disease in 1984. It continued to progress and in 1996, he was forced to retire. He had two kidney transplants, one in which his wife, Avril, was the donor.

He loved the outdoors, deer hunting, laughing and visiting with friends and family.

George was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Harold Darter.

Survivors include his wife, Avril of the home; his daughter, Amber Luna of Vanzant; five siblings, Hubert Darter of Cabool, Shirley Abrahamson of Cedar Hill, Dorothy Gaylor of Harrison, Ark., John Darter and Jerry Darter of Sparta; and a host of relatives and friends.

Services were Saturday, Nov. 27, at Cabool First United Methodist Church with Dr. Michael Lawton officiating. Burial was in Cabool Cemetery under the direction of Elliott-Gentry-Carder Funeral Home.
