Larry Louis Buckner

Larry Louis Buckner, 66, was born May 12, 1945, in Rolla, Mo., to Alvin and Verda Sneed Buckner. He passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Feb. 6, 2012, at Houston House, Houston, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step mom, Alma Buckner; his wife, Carolyn Sue (Phillips) Buckner; and one sibling brother.

Larry is survived by four children, Gretta Hathaway and husband, Sam, of Licking, Mo., Brenda Buckner of Houston, Mo., Lynn Cheek and husband, Eric, of Houston, Mo., and Larry Eugene Buckner and wife, April, of Lebanon, Mo.; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; six brothers, Bill Sneed and wife, Cathy, Harry Buckner and wife, Pat, Lonnie Buckner and wife, Connie, George Ragain and wife, Carol, Steve Ragain and wife, Sheila, and Charlie Ragain; seven sisters, Darlene Wilson and husband, Jim, Marlene Taylor and husband, Tom, Jo McQueen and husband, Stephen, Dorothy Ousley and husband, Victor Lee, Connie Riker and husband, Butch, Judy Routh and husband, Dwayne, and Nancy Brown. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.

Larry attended school at Blooming Rose until the eighth grade, when he had to quit so he could help support the family. He worked for the Highway Department in St. Louis for 10 years before moving his family to Plato, Mo., in September of 1972. Larry then went to work for Smith Walnut Company in Success, Mo., until it closed in 1996.

Larry was a member of Palace Union Church for 40 years. He served on the school board at Success School for many years.

Larry enjoyed being outdoors; helping out on the farm, but his greatest joy was to spend time with his family. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Services are 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012, at Evans Funeral Home with Dr. James Miller officiating. Pallbearers are Sam Hathaway, Travis Hathaway, Eric Cheek, Justin Miller, Jerry Miller, Robert Hall, Stephen Wellman and Justin Amburn. Honorary Pallbearers are Jason Buckner and Jason Ramsey. Burial will be in Pine Lawn Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.
