On Tuesday morning, a shooting in downtown Houston leads to one teen dead and another woman injured in what police described as a drug related incident.

At 11:15 am, police were called to 219 Grand for a suspected shooting. When police arrived, they discovered a female teenager had been fatally shot. Another female bystander was injured by a gunshot, according to Sgt. Kristian Bennett of the Houston Police Department.

During a press conference, Bennett stated that police have a male suspect in his mid-30s in custody. A white powdery substance that police said may be drugs, was found at the crime scene, according to Bennett. She said it will be examined.

She went on to say the teenage victim was found fatally shot inside the vacant building on the corner of Grand and Walnut. The second female victim received a gunshot wound to the arm as she was passing by the vacant building, Bennett said. She was transported to Texas County Memorial Hospital, where she was treated for her non-critical injury.

According to Bennett, Houston police detained the suspect at the scene. He is currently being held at the Texas County Justice Center awaiting charges.

Bennett said the investigation continues.
