Kylie Marie Long, a 15-year-old Houston High School student, hasn't been seen since she left school on Jan. 28.

The Texas County Sheriff’s Department continues to be actively involved in a search for a girl who went missing in late January.

Kylie Marie Long, 15, who was in foster care and enrolled at Houston High School, did not return home from school on Jan. 28. Sheriff James Sigman said a witness stated Long, who is not originally from Texas County, got into a yellow Nissan Pathfinder after school in the downtown area of Houston.

Sigman said his department investigates all leads, including posts on social media, and is working with authorities in Phelps and Franklin counties.

“We have no reason whatsoever to believe she’s in Texas County, but when we get information, we’re following up on it. There has been no delay in our action when information comes in,” Sigman said.

Long’s biological mother reportedly lives in Rolla.

“Pretty much everything we’ve received has led to Phelps County and elsewhere,” Sigman said. “When we receive information, we make contact with the proper law enforcement agencies or people.”

Sigman said he doesn’t rule out the possibility that a local citizen will step forward with information.

“We are asking that anyone with any information about Kylie’s whereabouts to contact the Texas County Sheriff’s Department,” Sigman said. “She wasn’t here all that long and I don’t know that she development much of a relationship with anyone here, but there’s always the chance that she’s keeping in contact with someone here she made a tie with.

“I know it’s a bad situation for the girl, but her being out there on the street is not a good situation for her either. Wherever she’s at, she’s not safe and not being properly cared for.”

The sheriff department’s phone number is 417-967-4165.
