A Houston man was seriously injured Tuesday night as he attempted to pass another vehicle on U.S. 63.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol said Gary L. Raynor, 39, was flown to Mercy Hospital following the accident just before 7 p.m. four miles north of Houston. Raynor was not wearing a seat belt.
Tpr. Marty Wiseman, who was assisted by two other troopers, said the accident occurred as Raynor attempted to overtake a pickup truck driven by Scott K. Dodd, 47, of Florissant. After Raynor’s northbound Ford Windstar made contact with Dodd’s vehicle, it traveled off the left side of the roadway, overturned and struck a tree.
Dodd, who was wearing a seat belt, was not injured. Raynor’s vehicle was totaled. Dodd’s truck had minor damage.
The Texas County Rescue Squad was called to the scene after a report of smoke coming from Raynor’s vehicle.
