Samuel “Sam” John Phillips Sr., 65, son of David and Ruby (Smith) Phillips, was born Sept. 11, 1950, in Houston, Mo. He passed away suddenly Aug. 4, 2016, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Chesterfield, Mo.
Sam wass preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister, Sharon; and a brother, Dude Phillips.
Surviving are his wife of almost 46 years, Dena, of the home in Houston, Mo.; his son, John Phillips and wife, Rachel, and his daughter, Shawna Foster and husband, Jeremy, all of Houston, Mo.; 20 years ago Sam and Dena adopted to the family Winnona Gale and husband, Chris, of Rolla, Mo.; eight grandchildren, Tyler and wife, Emily, Kayla, Austin, Janessa, Jadasyn, Shaniah, Caden and Kelly; three greatgrandchildren, Audi, Kinsley and Riley; and numerous other family members.
Sam was saved and baptized at a young age and was a faithful member of the L.I.F.E. church in Rolla, Mo.
He grew up in Success and attended schools in Plato, graduating high school with the class of 1968. He married Lovie Ludena Digges in the Palace Church on Aug. 9, 1970, and to this union two children were born, John and Shawna.
Sam worked for Ace manufacturing as a forklift operator/supervisor for many years in Sullivan, Mo.
First and foremost, Sam loved the Lord and because of that, he gave unending love to his family. He also loved preaching and ministering the word to all, hunting, fishing, watching the St. Louis Cardinals and following basketball games, especially cheering for LeBron James.
Sam was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. We rejoice that he is with the one he loved so dear, but will forever miss and love him.
Services were 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 8, at Evans Funeral Home with Pastor Douglas Cline and Pastor Judy Routh officiating. Burial was in Palace Cemetery. Pallbearers were John Phillips, Keith Ashton, Tyler Guynn, Austin Foster, Markus Weber and Mike Phillips. Honorary pallbearer was Caden Phillips.
