Gerald “Dewayne” Kruse, 80, passed away Sept. 15, 2016, at Houston House Nursing Home. Dewayne was born Feb. 26, 1936, in Emery, S.D., to John and Alice (Miller) Kruse.
Dewayne moved to Missouri when he was seven years old. Dewayne and Lucy McCombs were married on Sept. 3, 1966, and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary earlier this month.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his mother and father-in-law, Leah and Jennings McCombs; his brother, Don Kruse; sisters-in-law, Pat Williams and Nancy McCombs; his uncles, Jasper and David Kruse and Edward Miller; and his aunts, Jesse Kruse, Minnie Hall, May Chilton and Gladys and Johanna Grogan.
Dewayne is survived by his wife, Lucy Kruse of the home in Houston, Mo.; two sons, Byron Kruse of Houston, Mo., and Rodney Kruse and wife, Lisa, of Caseyville, Ill.; two grandchildren, Nicholas and Lily Kruse; brother, Eldon Lee Kruse and wife, Pat, of Hazelwood, Mo.; sister-in-law, Shirley Kruse; five nieces, Cindy Lamb, Marsha Campbell, Sherry Jensen, Carol Stewart and Rebecca Kruse and many cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Dewayne enjoyed gardening, listening to music, watching baseball games and old westerns on TV. He also never missed the local news and was an avid Weather Channel watcher.
He gave his life to Christ in his younger years and is now at rest with the Lord. His acts of kindness to many were an expression of his faith in the saving grace of Christ.
Services were 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 19, 2016, at Houston United Methodist Church with the Rev. Terry Lippstreu and Tom Tomlinson officiating. Burial was in Boone Creek Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Red Booker, Roger Holder, Terry Flowers, Jay Frost, Steve Hutcheson and Sid Vanderveen.
