A Licking man was arrested Aug. 31 and charged with causing the June 2014 death of a woman during a motorcycle poker run. Mark D. Griffith, 52, faces felony charges of involuntary manslaughter (vehicular – intoxicated) and driving while revoked. A warrant was issued for his arrest in April 2015. He was arrested by the Licking Police Department, which Chief Scott Lindsey said received a tip he would be traveling through its jurisdiction. Nancy E. James, 44, of Licking, was killed in the wreck two years ago near Highways 137 and P. Authorities said a northbound 1978 Harley Davidson operated by Griffith overtook several vehicles and rear-ended a Jeep.
The bike reportedly overturned, throwing off Griffith and James.
Patrol investigators said while Griffith was lying on the roadway, he was run over by another motorcycle and was subsequently flown by helicopter to a hospital in Springfield.
Several emergency responders went to the scene of the crash.
Lindsey said Griffith was arrested without incident during a traffic stop on East Highway 32.
Lindsey said his department will submit an additional charge of driving while revoked as a prior offender.
