Houston softball coach Brent Hall plans to build a locker room and batting cage for the program near Carter Field.
Hall sought permission from the school board at last Tuesday’s monthly meeting to erect the facility next to the district’s storage facility on the hillside above the field. He said funds for the building have been raised and much of the labor will be donated.
Hall said he initially planned to build behind the field, but changed his mind due to the uncertainty of who –– the district or the City of Houston –– owned the property.
The board expressed its support and asked Hall to lay out the design with markers so they could view it. No vote was taken. The matter will be revisited at the October meeting.
Also at the meeting, school board members:
•Heard from Dr. Allen Moss, superintendent, that L.J. Hart and Company would like to meet with the district to discuss its existing bonding capacity.
•Accepted a resignation from Rhonda Morgan, middle school communication arts, at the end of the 2016-’17 school year. She is retiring from the district.
•Employed Derrion Donson as high school track coach for the current school year.
•Named Sherri Gale the junior class sponsor and Dana Wilson the football supervisor for the current school year.
•Approved a transportation evaluation from Matt Robertson and technology evaluation from Audrey Kell.
•Were led in the Pledge of Allegiance by Kyelor Curtis, the Houston High School student of the month.
