Although it was a loss, Houston boys’ basketball coach Rod Gorman was pleased with his team’s performance in its home opener.

“I thought we battled about as hard as I’ve seen us battle since I’ve been here,” Gorman said after the 53-45 loss Friday to Seymour. “We had a lot of fight. I’m proud of our effort and as we improve, we’ll play better.”

Lucas Kelley scored 17 points and Tayler Ward had 10 for HHS (1-2). Freshman Isaiah Buse had a team-high nine rebounds.

The Tigers led 11-9 after the opening quarter. They were ahead 43-42 early in the fourth before Seymour closed the game with an 11-2 run.

Last Tuesday, Kelley scored 12 points in an 81-22 loss at Mansfield.

JUNIOR VARSITY: Noah Moseley had a team-high 10 points in the JV Tigers’ 43-33 home loss Friday to Seymour.
