Houston's Jaydin Ramsey puts up a shot over Willow Springs defenders last Wednesday in the Mountain Grove Holiday Tournament.

MOUNTAIN GROVE — Stingy defense and Jaydin Ramsey’s key perimeter shooting kept the Houston Lady Tigers alive.

HHS rallied from a fourth-quarter deficit to beat Willow Springs 44-41 last Wednesday afternoon in the Mountain Grove Holiday Tournament.

The Lady Tigers lost the following day 56-37 to Cuba in the fifth-place game.

In the comeback against Willow Springs, Ramsey scored nine of her 12 points in the fourth quarter to spark Houston’s rally. All four of her field goals were 3-pointers.

Abby Casper led Houston (5-6) with 14 points.

In the fifth-place game, Cuba outscored the Lady Tigers 17-6 to quickly build a double-digit lead it never relinquished.

Kaitlyn Root scored 13 of her team-high 15 points in the first half. Ramsey added 13.

In the quarterfinals last Tuesday, Houston was defeated 39-26 by top-seeded Gainesville.

Ramsey led the Lady Tigers with seven points. Casper and Root scored six apiece.

The ninth-seeded Lady Tigers had a 2-2 tournament record with wins against Chadwick and Willow Springs and losses to Gainesville and Cuba.
