Shirley Fay (Kirkwood) Snelling, 79, was born Sept. 10, 1937, in Houston, Mo., to Elmer Herbert and Vivian Marie (Noe) Kirkwood. She passed away January 19, 2017, at her home in Houston, Mo.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George Snelling, Sr.; her siblings, Lee Kirkwood, Betty Sue and James; and a great-grandson, Daniel.
Shirley was saved and baptized at a young age at Oak Hill Church, where she attended for many years.
She married George Monroe Snelling Sr. on Nov. 15, 1953, and to this union four children were born, George Jr., Terry, Thomas and Tina.
Shirley worked for HD Lee factory, Texas County Memorial Hospital in housekeeping and OB and was a beautician for several years.
She is survived by her children, George Snelling Jr. and wife, Jackie, of Licking, Mo., Terry Snelling and wife, Sylvia, of Houston, Mo., Thomas Snelling of Houston, Mo., and Tina Keenum and husband, Mark, of Thackerville, Okla.; 10 grandchildren, Isobel, George, Terra, Terina, Tiffany, Josef, Thomas, Jr., Robert “Buddy”, David and Ashley Fay; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a brother, Herbert Kirkwood of Houston, Mo.; two sisters, Anetta Shelton and husband, Lester, and Bonnie Hayes and husband, Larry, of Bucyrus, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews.
Shirley loved sewing and crafts and made many quilts. She also enjoyed flowers and gardening. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Graveside services were 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 23, 2017, in Oak Hill Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Coleton Hayes, Clayton Hayes, Tyler Snelling, Christopher McConnell, James McConnell and Christian McConnell.
