The Houston volleyball team is seeded fifth in next week’s Class 2 District 9 tournament.
The Lady Tigers will face fourth-seeded Cabool at 4 p.m. Monday in the first of two play-in matches. Cabool is hosting the tournament.
The winner of the Houston-Cabool match will play top-seeded Liberty at 6 p.m. Monday. The winner of the other play-in game between Licking and Sparta will play No. 2 Willow Springs at 7 p.m.
The championship match is 6 p.m. Tuesday.
The Lady Tigers had an 11-match losing skid before defeating Mountain Grove 25-19, 25-19 last Tuesday on Senior Night. The wire-to-wire win was the team’s first South Central Association victory.
“It was a great win for senior night,” HHS coach Loran Richardson said. “The girls played tough the whole game. I was proud of us for finishing up our home games in such a strong way.”
Brooke McCown had six kills and Kennedy Campbell added five. Alexis Choate handed out 13 assists.
Melody Buse had a team-best 14 digs. Hunninghake, Rowland, Buse and Maddison Barton all had aces.
Last Thursday, Houston was defeated 29-27, 25-12 at Mountain Grove. Campbell and Viviana Guerra had three kills apiece. Choate and Janae Huff had five assists apiece.
Buse had 18 digs. Rowland led the team with two aces.
Houston (4-22, 1-5 SCA) played Tuesday at Thayer and concludes the regular season today (Thursday) at Winona.
