A Licking man was seriously injured Thursday afternoon in a four-vehicle wreck at a U.S. 63 work zone in Phelps County.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol said Jacob P. Butherus, 25, was flown by medical helicopter to Mercy Hospital in Springfield following the 12:58 p.m. accident 12 miles south of Rolla. Two others had minor injuries.
The patrol said three vehicles, including a 2014 KIA Optima operated by Butherus, were stopped at the work zone when a 2008 GMC driven by Loree G. Brown, 53, of Bear Lake, Mich., failed to recognize the stopped vehicles. Brown’s truck struck the Butherus vehicle, which then struck another vehicle and caused it to hit another.
Brown and Tyler A. Murphy, 21, of Bourbon, both had minor injuries and were seeking their own medical attention. A fourth person involved was not injured. Everyone involved were wearing seat belts, the patrol said.
Butherus’ vehicle was totaled. Brown’s truck had extensive damage.
The Phelps County Sheriff’s Department, Phelps County EMS, Phelps County Air, Edgar Springs Fire Department and Texas County Memorial Hospital assisted at the scene.
