Lady Tigers lose season opener in shootout

The Houston girls’ basketball team lost its season opener 63-40 Saturday against Fordland in the Cabool Shootout.

Kaitlyn Root and Ally Morgan scored 13 points apiece to lead the Lady Tigers, who trailed 17-11 after the opening quarter. HHS shot 30 percent from the field.

“We have to guard and rebound better,” Houston coach Jim Moore said. “We had lots of good looks on the offensive end but the ball didn’t fall.”

The Lady Tigers (0-1) have more than a week off before hosting Licking on Monday inside Hiett Gymnasium.

“We will get it figured out,” Moore said. “We may experience a few growing pains early in the season, but I like this team’s potential.”
