Seventh-grade girls finish second in tourney

The Houston seventh-grade girls’ basketball team finished second in last week’s tournament in Mountain Grove.

In the championship game last Thursday against Licking, Karlee Curtis scored a team-best seven points in the Lady Tigers’ 31-17 defeat.

Aliyah Walker and Mackenzie Bryan had four points apiece for Houston, which trailed 9-4 after the first quarter and by 12 at the half.

In the semifinals last Tuesday, Walker scored eight points and Mackenzie Bryan added seven as the Lady Tigers edged Liberty 23-20.

The game was tied 7-7 at the half.

EIGHTH – GRADE GIRLS: Hannah Dzurick scored 13 points as Houston beat Thayer 18-15 last Thursday in the consolation final of the Mountain Grove Tournament.

Annie Topping added five points.

Last Tuesday, Dzurick had 11 points and Topping added six in an 18-10 win against Mountain Grove.

SEVENTH-GRADE BOYS: Colton Stewart scored 10 points to lead the Houston seventh-grade boys’ basketball team past Cabool 38-26 Monday night.

Garyn Hall added nine points for the Tigers (1-2). Dakota James and Tre Bolden scored six apiece.

Houston led 16-2 after the opening quarter.

Last week, Houston lost both of its games in the West Plains Tournament.

On Monday, Bolden scored a team-best five points in the Tigers’ 30-17 loss to Liberty. Anthony Carroll and Colton Stewart added three points apiece.

The following day, Carroll scored 11 points in a 24-22 defeat to Willow Springs
