A man was seriously injured early Monday morning when the vehicle he was driving struck a rock embankment on U.S. 63 near Houston.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said Paul S. Merritt, 55, of Vibernum, was flown by medical helicopter to Mercy Springfield following the 5:25 a.m. accident three miles south of Houston. He was not wearing a seat belt.

Merritt was traveling southbound when the 2006 Saturn Vue he was driving struck the bluff and overturned. He was not wearing a seat belt. The vehicle was totaled.
