ROY DUSENBERY

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of Roy L. Dusenbery, who passed away on Dec. 14, 2017, at his home in Houston, Mo., surrounded by his kids. He will truly be missed by his family and friends.

Roy was born in Washington, Iowa, in 1935, and was raised in a large family of nine siblings. Times were not easy; Roy learned at a young age how to survive and make do with what his family had.

Roy joined the railroad at an early age and this job took him all over the United States. We believe it’s where he found his enjoyment of traveling and meeting new people. He was employed over the years with Rock Island Railroad, Swanson Railroad and Hulcher Railroad. He eventually settled in Arizona, where he worked for Pelan County Sanitation.

While in Arizona, Roy met the love of his life, Tina Hobbs. They were a perfect match, both enjoying traveling, spending time outdoors and meeting new people. Together, they moved to Houston, Mo., where they lived from 1994 until 2007 when Tina passed away.

Roy loved to entertain family and friends. He loved sharing his stories of travels and cooking for visitors, his favorite being ham/beans with cornbread and chicken noodles. From small family gatherings, to canoe trips with his grandkids and 10 hungry teenagers, no one ever left his place hungry. Roy never made a little, he always had enough to feed an army and was always sharing his latest creation with is family and friends.

Roy is survived by his son, Bill Dusenbery and daughter-in-law, Sherri; daughter, Teresa Lampe and son-in-law, Fred; son, Gary Crawfords and daughter-in-law, Dee Dee; daughter, Rita Dusenbery; son, Roy Dusenbery and daughter-in-law, Pam; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters: Darlene Stewart, Wilma (Buzz) Chalupa, Linda (Richard) Hagans and Kathy (Greg) Thu; and brother, Archie (Twila) Harris.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Catherine Harris and William Dusenbery; brothers, Ed Dusenbery and Karl Harris; and sister, Illa Spiker.

General calling hours will begin at noon on Thursday. Interment will be held in Atlantic Cemetery in Atlantic, Iowa, where he will be laid to rest with his partner, Tina.

In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be made to Hospice of Care at Texas County Memorial Hospital in Houston, Mo. These ladies provided Roy and the family much support during his final days.
