The Houston Tigers just missed pulling off a holiday tournament upset.
Thirteenth-seeded HHS stayed close the entire way Tuesday with No. 4 Licking in the opening round of the Cabool Holiday Tournament. The Wildcats held on 55-51.
Junior Paydon Dixon hit four 3-pointers and led three players in double figures with 17 points. Clayton Moore added 14 and Ty McCloud had 12.
The Tigers (2-6) played Alton at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the consolation round.
Licking (8-1) won its eighth straight game as it advanced.
Last Tuesday, Houston entered the Christmas break with a 58-50 road loss at Alton.
HHS, which trailed by two at the half, shot just 36 percent from the field and was 14-for-26 (53 percent) at the free-throw line.
Kyler Ramsey led the Tigers with 13 points. Dixon had 11 points – highlighted by three of the team’s six 3-pointers – and five assists.
