The Missouri Department of Conservation will host a prescribed burning workshop Feb. 13 at Mansfield.
The MDC will explain how to set up and conduct a controlled-burn safely. The meeting is from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Ann Short Turner Community Center, 205 N. Missouri Ave., in Mansfield. Snacks will be provided.
What is prescribed burning? It is used to improve habitat for quail and other small game species as well as controlling weeds, brush and will help insure diversity of plants in the wildlife food chain. It also is used in maintaining and improving native grasses.
Lesly Holt, private land conservationist with MDC, said the workshop will help landowners evaluate when the best conditions exist and how to use them in a safe manner to achieve the desired results.
