Madine Scantlin, 82, daughter of Joe and Nora (Conley) York, was born Sept. 10, 1936, in Eunice, Mo. She passed away Feb. 15, 2019, at Texas County Memorial Hospital.
Madine was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Fern Mitchell and Ruby Howard; her husband, Jimmie F. Scantlin; her sons, Jimmie D. Scantlin and Bobby J. Scantlin; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She is survived by two sisters, Marie Small of Rolla, Mo., and Judy Millraney of Willow Springs, Mo.; one brother, Joe H. York of Raymondville, Mo.; two daughters, Judy May Leeder of Willow Springs, Mo., and Donna Wallace and husband, JD, of Licking, Mo.; two sons; David Scantlin and wife, Julie, of Raymondville, Mo., and Edgar Scantlin and wife, Rache,l of Raymondville, Mo.; nine grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and was even blessed by great-great grandchildren.
She was married to Lloyd Leeder and to this union one daughter was born.
She later married Jimmie Scantlin and to this union five children were born.
She was saved and baptized as a young woman and was the daughter of an anointed Pentecostal preacher. She worked for a time at Texas County Memorial Hospital in the housekeeping department. Most of her years, though, were devoted to being a housewife and caring for her children and her husband. She made the BEST biscuits and gravy around, and she made it every single morning for her family to enjoy.
She loved a good cup of coffee, company to share it with and maybe even some cheesecake. She also enjoyed her cats, watching TV and making her pumpkin pies for the holidays. Whenever it was time to leave her holiday table, she wouldn’t tell you to take a “piece of pie” she would tell you to take a whole pie home with you. You never left her house hungry.
She loved her family so much. She loved spending time with her grandchildren; her face would light up when they were there. She enjoyed all the hugs and loved watching them grow right before her eyes.
She loved to fish with Jimmie and the family, although sometimes all she seemed to be able to catch was turtles. She enjoyed the fishing trips, river bank cookouts and just being with her family.
She truly was such a sweet and precious soul who will be missed by all who had the privilege to know and love her. In her later years, dementia took her memories but it could not possibly take the love that she held in her heart for her family. In her words… “You tell ‘em ALL that I love ‘em, OK!” Absolutely…I will tell ‘em!
This isn’t goodbye… it’s just see you later.
Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2019, at Community Crossroads Church with Brad Wallace and Jim Root officiating. Burial will be in Ashley Creek Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home. Pallbearers are Aaron Scantlin, Jayson Wallace, Jerod Wallace, JD Wallace, Dustin Mitchell and Jeff Brim.
Memorials may be made to Ashley Creek Cemetery, in lieu of flowers.
