The Missouri State Highway Patrol said the body of a Mountain Grove man who drowned was recovered Friday in Wright County.

A call for help was received Thursday at a Highway E residence about two miles south of the Gasconade River Bridge by Highway 38. The patrol said Preston J. Jarrett, 33, had attempted to retrieve an item floating down the stream when he was witnessed going underwater and failed to resurface.

Emergency personnel searched by boat and on foot throughout the day but could not locate Jarrett. Search efforts resumed Friday morning with the assistance of the Missouri State Highway Patrol Dive Team.

The body was recovered at about 11:30 a.m. Friday. Numerous officers assisted from the patrol, Missouri Department of Conservation and Wright County Sheriff’s Department.
