Alma Jane Ard, 86, daughter of James Garfield Prater and Lula Lewis Prater, was born Nov. 23, 1914, at Salem. She died Jan. 9, 2001, at St. Francis Hospital in Mountain View. She married Ray Ard Jan. 15, 1931, at Salem. They had 13 children. Mrs. Ard was a member of the First Assembly of God at Eminence, where she attended as long as she was able. She read her Bible daily and enjoyed mowing her yard and tending her flowers. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two children, Darrell David and Virgie Irene; three brothers, Jimmy, Bill and Charley; three sisters, Electa, Dorothy and Ellen; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Surviving are her children, Johnie Ard of Mountain View, Vertie Madison of Phoenix, Ariz., Denver Ard, Clinton Ard, Betty Banks and Mike Ard of Eminence, Vera Wilson of Greeley, Colo., Donetta Randall of Brooklyn, Ill., Norma Jean Woolford of Hartshorn, Harold Ard of Fulton and Terry Ard of Plymouth, Ill.; one brother, Oran Prater of Sulphur, La., one sister, Etta Bird of Joplin; 41 grandchildren, a host of great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren. Services were Jan. 12 at the First Assembly of God at Eminence with the Rev. Kevin Davis officiating. Burial was in the Miner Cemetery near Salem under the direction of Bradford Funeral Home of Summersville. “
