Hazel Irene Scharnhorst, 74, daughter of Fred Wesley and Flora Phillips Stenger, was born Dec. 22, 1925, at Houston. She died Dec. 21, 2000, at Wichita, Kan. She attended Brown Hill School and graduated from Houston High School in 1943. Following graduation, she and a schoolmate went to Wichita, Kan., to work. There she met Robert “”Bob”” Scharnhorst. They were married June 15, 1947, at Houston. They lived at Wichita, Kan., where Mr. Scharnhorst was with the Wichita Fire Department. Following his medical retirement, they bought property near Stockton and moved there. Following the death of her husband Oct. 19, 1984, after heart bypass surgery, Mrs. Scharnhorst lived at Houston, where she was a member of the First Christian Church. She returned to Wichita in 1993. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Will Lee, who died in 1995. Surviving are four sons, James and Richard of Wichita, Kan., Gary of Albuquerque, N.M., and David of Fresno, Calif.; two brothers, Wesley of Riverton, Kan., and John H. of Houston; and one sister, Betty of Strafford. Services were Dec. 28 in Stockton with burial in the Stockton City Cemetery.”
