Ora Mae Barton, 90, daughter of Charlie and Ella Reed Driesel, was born Oct. 21, 1910, at Licking. She died Jan. 2, 2001, at Texas County Memorial Hospital in Houston after a long illness. She became a member of the Boone Creek Baptist Church at an early age. She married Arthur Alonzo Barton Jan. 2, 1937. They had three sons. Mrs. Barton spent most of her life in the Raymondville community, where she and her husband operated Barton’s DX. She provided care in her home for many children in Raymondville as long as her health permitted. She was known by many in the community simply as “”Grandma””. When her health no longer permitted her to remain at home, she became a resident of Licking ParkManor. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Bill Driesel; one sister; Bessie Keeney; her husband, Alonzo; twin sons, Ronald Gene and Roger Dean; and one granddaughter. Surviving are one son, Donald Ray Barton Sr. of Raymondville; one brother, Ed Driesel of Licking; five grandchildren and eight great-grand-children. Services were Jan. 5 at the Evans Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kendall Ford officiating. Burial was in the Boone Creek Cemetery.”
