Anna Mae York, 89, daughter of William Moses and Isabell Helton Adams, was born Nov. 9, 1911, at Palace. She died Feb. 28, 2001, at the Tri-County Nursing Home at Richland. She married Ernest Jacob York Aug. 15, 1927. They had six children and were married 52 years. During the first 20 years of their life they farmed near old Evening Shade in Texas County. In 1946, they purchased a farm on the Big Piney River near Big Piney. She continued to live on the farm until January. Mrs. York spent most of her life as a homemaker and farm wife. After her children were grown, she was a seamstress in the tailor shop at Fort Leonard Wood. She retired in 1973. She was a member of the Hopewell Baptist Church at Big Piney. She was preceded in death by her husband; two daughters, Thelma Isabell Ashworth and Eula Mae Keaton; two sons, Raymond Leroy York and Vernon Hill York; her parents and two brothers. Surviving are two daughters, Maxine Stone Davidson of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Deloris Edwards of Crocker; one sister, Emogene York of Plato; 17 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. Services were March 5 at the Palace Union Church with the Rev. Ken Sullins officiating. Burial was in the Palace Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home of Houston.”
