Roscoe Hurley, 93, the second oldest of nine children of Charles and Lela Olinger Hurley, was born Feb. 28, 1908, at Olinger, Va. He died March 9, 2001. He married Iona Britzman Hurley Jan. 15, 1941, at West Plains. During their 60-year marriage they had two children. Mr. Hurley worked for Kahoka Electrical Power Plant in St. Louis for 12 years. He served in the Army Combat Engineers 1266th Unit during World War II. He toured seven countries and received his honorable discharge in 1946. He earned the Victory Ribbon, the American Theatre Ribbon of European African Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon with one Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal and Overseas Bar. He retired from Cabool Tire Co., drove a school bus and worked for WoodPro, retiring at age 76. He was a member of the Cabool Christian Church. He was preceded in death by a son, Alan Lynn Hurley, his parents and six brothers and sisters. Surviving are one daughter, Joyce Ann Brooks of Springfield; one sister, Ruby Lee of St. Louis; one brother, Curtis Hurley of Bridgeview, Ill.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Services were March 12 at the Cabool Christian Church with Tim Randall officiating. Burial was in the Cabool Cemetery under the direction of Elliott-Gentry Funeral Home of Cabool.”
