Lewis Edmond York, 97, son of Vandiver York and Sarah Manes York, was born Oct. 7, 1905. He died Dec. 6, 2002, at Ozark. Mr. York was a resident of Duke for 54 years. He spent his life as a farmer, school bus and cab driver. He served on the Pulaski County School District board of education. His favorite pastimes were fishing and hunting. He enjoyed family games and was an avid checker and pitch player. He was preceded in death by his wife; an infant son, Lewis Edmond Jr.; his parents; siblings, Ed, Cynthia, Ernest, Lucy, Otis, Edna and Emmer; and a grandson. Surviving are his children, Van York of Channahon, Ill., David York of Princeton, Ill., Mary Broughton of Ozark, and John York of San Antonio, Texas; 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Services were Dec. 9 at the Palace Union Church with the Rev. Wesley Wallace and Wanda Onstad officiating. Burial was in the Palace Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home. “
