Frank Amos Gorman, 82, son of Ervin and Tella James Gorman, was born Feb. 20, 1923, near Montauk. He died Jan. 4, 2006, at his home at Licking.He entered the U.S. Army in December 1942. He was deployed with the 2067th Quartermaster Trucking Co. in November 1943 and spent two years in the South Pacific. He was awarded three Bronze Starts for campaigns in the Philippines, New Guinea and Luzon. He discharged with the rank of private first class.He married Laura Irene Tighe Dec. 20, 1945, in St. Louis after his discharge from the Army at the end of World War II. They had 10 children.The family moved to California, near McFarland, following the war, where eight of his children were born.His love of the Missouri hills brought him home to stay in 1961. His jobs included a laborer for the Missouri Department of Conservation. He loved to trade cars and kept the local bank and license bureau busy.He accepted Christ as his savior in 1955 at a small church in Maricopa, Calif. He was a life member of the Licking Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6337.After retiring in 1975, he loved to trout fish at Montauk State Park, raise vegetables in his garden to share with others and tell stories to his grandchildren.He and his wife recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. The family traveled to the ocean, camped in the mountains, played games and he taught his sons to fish.He was active in helping promote the Gorman family reunion and raising funds for Patterson Cemetery.Surviving are his wife of the home at Licking; sons, Gary, Jerry and Terry of Licking, Mike and Joe of Rolla, Bob of St. Louis and Rod of Rogersville; one daughter, Frances Travers of St. Louis; brothers, Delmar and Ray Gorman of China Grove, N.C., Leroy Gorman of Bakersfield, Calif., and Don Gorman of Licking; sisters, Velma Price of Bakersfield and Loraine Crabtree of Petoskey, Mich.; 26 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.Services were Jan. 6 at the Fox Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Steve Floyd and the Rev. Bob Travers officiating. Burial with full military honors was in the Patterson Cemetery. “
