Houston could have a new football coach in less than a week.

Interviews with four finalists concluded last week and an undetermined number will appear before the school board on Monday. A decision could be made as early as that night, but will definitely be made before the March 12 regular board meeting, Superintendent Clinton Waters said.

Waters said there were “a significant number of applications for the position.” Interim athletic director Charlie Malam screened the candidates before selecting four finalists that were interviewed by himself, Waters and High School Principal Audrey Kell.

Kell said the trio will soon determine how many of the candidates will appear before the board.

The position, which became vacant when Josh Gettler resigned in December after just one season on the sidelines, is listed to include physical education, weight conditioning and athletic director duties. But Kell previously said there is flexibility within the district to hire a candidate who is not certified to serve as A.D.
