Spikers Place First
The Texas County Spikers recently finished first in the silver division of the Club Bear Classic.
After finishing fourth in their pool with a 3-5 record, the Spikers came to life. They downed Southwest Juniors (25-15, 25-19) and Capital Area (25-13, 25-20) to reach the championship game.
Facing the same Springfield Juniors1 team they split with earlier, the Spikers won 25,13, 22-25, 15-5.
“We came out on fire. Our blocking improved and we played outstanding defense,” coach Brittany Cheek said.
In pool play, the Spikers split with Springfield Juniors1 15-19, 22-25 before beating Club Bear4 25-19, 25-17. The Spikers then lost to Fair Acres and Club Bear2 in straight sets.
“I am very proud of these girls. They played hard all day,” Cheek said. “We had a couple of bad moments, but all teams do. The last three games were great.”
The Spikers are sponsored by First National Bank.
