A Success man was seriously injured Sunday afternoon when his vehicle crossed the centerline and was struck nearly head-on by a tractor-trailer unit, the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Christopher L. Hadley, 21, of Success, was traveling home from his job at McDonald’s in Houston when the mishap occurred near Plum Valley Road and Highway 17 north of Houston. Hadley’s truck was totaled, and extensive damage was reported to the 2007 Peterbilt driven by Lawrence M. Schadegg, 48, of Richland. Hadley was not wearing a seat belt, said Tpr. Curtis Hubbs.
Highway 17 was blocked for some time as rescue workers aided Hadley, who was airlifted to St. John’s Hospital in Springfield. A chopper landed on the highway as emergency personnel, including the Texas County Rescue Squad, worked to stabilize Hadley, who sustained multiple injuries, including a broken leg and pelvis.
Neighbors, who looked on as relatives at the scene called others to report the accident, said numerous wrecks have occurred on the stretch of roadway, destroying fences and mailboxes.
