A stretch of U.S. 63 through Cabool will temporarily close for approximately seven days beginning Monday, June 4, the Missouri Department of Transportation announced last week.

MoDOT said the closure is necessary to allow crews to work on the roadway leading up to the area where intersection improvements have been under way since early March.

Recommended alternate routes are:

*Eastbound U.S. 60 traffic should use the Business 60 exit and travel through Cabool to the intersection with Route 63

*Westbound U.S. 60/63 traffic should take Route 181 into Cabool and travel through town to the intersection with U.S. 63.

Anticipated completion of the entire project, which encompasses the intersection in Cabool and two bridges north of town on 63, is expected in August 2007. Work includes resurfacing, shouldering and intersection improvements.

The project was awarded to Gaines Construction Inc. of Wentzville, at a total cost of nearly $2.2 million. The project length is 3.4 miles beginning at U.S. 60, then continuing north ending at Highway U.

Traffic control signs will direct motorist through the detour during construction. The resident engineer’s office in Willow Springs will be in direct charge of the project.
