A freak accident sent a wheel rolling across South Sam Houston Blvd. into a business last week.
Houston police said a trailer-truck unit driven by Lonnie R. Royal, 26, lost the wheel, which rolled across the highway and onto the State Farm Insurance parking lot. The wheel shattered a window at the building. The vehicle came to rest on the highway’s shoulder, said officer David Kidwell. No one was injured in the May 22 mishap that occurred at about 7 a.m.
In other matters, police:
-Cited Wayne E. Land, 60, of 727 Sommerfield Drive, with DWI and operating a motor vehicle while license revoked on May 26.
-Investigated a May 18 accident that officers said occurred when a Robert O. Keller, 24, of Bucyrus, struck a car in the rear driven by Edward L. Cline, 43, of Bucyrus. The mishap occurred near Grand Avenue and U.S. 63.
-Were called to a May 20 accident at Bryan Street and West Highway 17 that left a vehicle driven by Larry R. Barton, 61, of Raymondville, on its side. Barton told officers he was traveling east when he overtook a vehicle that was turning onto Bryan Street. Avoiding the turning vehicle, he rolled the vehicle onto its side on the right shoulder.
-Cited Howard D. Crane, 45, of Summersville, with failing to stop for posted stop sign and improper vehicle registration on May 23.
