The Houston Lady Tigers 11-12 softball team squeaked past Birch Tree and blew out Willow Springs 2 to remain undefeated.

Kayla Kelley allowed two hits and struck out five for her third victory as the Lady Tigers beat Birch Tree 7-6 on Thursday. Taylor Franklin had the lone hit for Houston, which took advantage of 14 walks.

“We need to play better than we did in this one, especially at the plate,” coach Craig Pounds said. “We really had a hard time seeing the pitch to hit, so they stood there and took pitches. It worked out this time, but I would much rather hit the ball.”

The following day against Willow Springs 2, Kelley struck out 11 and gave up just one hit as Houston cruised to a 13-3 win.

Amber Sillyman had two inside-the-park home runs and knocked in six runs for Houston. Kelley was 3-for-3 with two runs scored.

“This was a much better game all the way around for us,” Pounds said. “I really like the way we hit the ball.”
