A Licking teenage has been charged with premeditated murder in the stabbing death of another solider at a military base in Fort Lewis, Wash.
Pvt. Anthony Cruse, 19, was formally charged Thursday in the June 15 incident. He had been in custody at the post’s corrections facility following his arrest a few hours after the stabbing.
Witnesses led investigators to Cruse, who allegedly stabbed Pvt. Timothy W. Crislip, 22, outside a North Fort Lewis barracks sometime after 4 a.m. Crislip died of a stab wound to the neck, authorities said.
Cruse, who graduated from Licking High School and played on the boys’ basketball team, joined the Army in November 2006 and arrived at Fort Lewis in March. He is assigned to the 5th Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division.
Officials have offered no motive for the slaying and said the investigation is continuing.
