Licking Woman Charged with Stealing Fatality Victim's Ring

A Licking woman is accused of stealing a $16,000 engagement ring from the victim of a fatal car accident.

Rolla police said that a tip led them to Pamela Chapman, a then employee at Phelps County Regional Medical Center, and the ring of a woman who died March 18. The ring, which was designed by the victim’s fiancé, had been removed from the woman’s finger and placed with her body by the coroner. But by the time the body was embalmed and taken to a St. Louis area funeral home, the ring was missing.

Investigators had little information until a May 24 tip led them to Chapman, who was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property. She is free on $20,000 bond.
