Patrol Cruiser Crashes in Chase

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said a chase that ended early Saturday with the crashing of one of its vehicles remains under investigation.

Tpr. Terry Nelson escaped injury in the accident on Marquis Road northwest of Summersville. Members of the Summersville Fire Department responded to the crash scene.

Sgt. Marty Elmore of the patrol’s Troop G said the investigation is continuing.

Three Teens Hurt in Early Morning Accident

Three area teens were injured – one of them seriously – when their vehicle ran off U.S. 63 just north of Houston and overturned in a pasture. All three were thrown from the vehicle.

Sgt. Sam Mudd of the patrol said a vehicle driven by Jamie A. Cooper, 18, of Licking, was traveling northbound when the mishap occurred. Cooper was flown to St. John’s Hospital in Springfield. The two passengers, Kalyn Matchell, 15, Licking; and Andrea Richardson, 16, Salem, were taken to TCMH in Houston.

Mudd said the vehicle, which was totaled, came to rest on its top. None were wearing a seat belt.

Houston Woman Injured in Evening Shade Crash

A 79-year-old Houston woman received injuries Friday when her vehicle ran off Highway 17 at Evening Shade, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said.

Verneta F. Williamson was traveling southbound when she ran off the right side of the roadway, oversteered and continued off the left side, said Tpr. Marty Wiseman.

Williamson, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken by ambulance to TCMH in Houston.

Licking Woman Seriously Injured in Licking Car Crash

A 51-year-old Licking woman was seriously hurt early Friday when her vehicle ran off Highway C north of her hometown, striking an embankment and two trees, said the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Vickie L. Smith was traveling northbound at 2:19 a.m. when the mishap occurred, said Tpr. Curtis Hubbs of the patrol. Smith was flown from the scene to St. John’s Hospital In Springfield.

Her 1995 Pontiac Firebird was totaled, said Hubbs, who noted that summons are pending in the case.
