Senior Janell Gentry tips the ball over the net Thursday against Cuba.

A lineup change helped Houston get its first victory of the season.

Senior Kate Harper had eight kills and Janell Gentry dished out 19 assists as the Lady Tigers down Cuba 25-14, 25-18 Thursday night for their first volleyball victory.

Harper, who didn’t play last season, shifted from the middle to the outside after Tuesday’s loss to Licking. The move paid off.

“The girls looked a lot better tonight,” coach Debbie James said. “It will take awhile to see what works best for this team. Kate did a great job hitting from the outside position.”

Chelsey Williams had a team-best 13 digs, and sophomore Erica Keeney had four blocks for Houston (1-1). Amber Honig had three aces.
