The Texas County Fair-Old Settlers Reunion ended late Saturday night with a big crowd for the finals of a demolition derby.

The event capped four nights of activities that saw increased attendance despite sweltering heat, reports the Houston Area Chamber of Commerce, which sponsors the annual event. “The fair was very successful,” said Brenda Senter, executive director of the chamber, which receives much of its annual operating funds from the fair.

On Saturday, a junior livestock sale attracted buyers for sheep, goats, hogs and steers.

The Texas County Fair Board sponsors several shows that culminate with the livestock sale.

A special news section on the county fair will appear in this week’s Herald.
